Overview

First Tee – Virginia Blue Ridge seeks a mission-driven Lead Instructor & Player Development Professional to deliver high‑quality First Tee youth programs at the First Tee Clubhouse at Ix Park and partnered locations. This role is primarily responsible for leading First Tee curriculum programs and class operations in a fun, high energy youth-focused environment, with secondary responsibilities in growing individual lessons, leagues, and facility usage.

This role is intentionally designed to prepare PGA Associates with management level experiential responsibilities. While instruction and program leadership remain the core functions, the position offers hands‑on experience in program planning, operations, leadership, and customer engagement. Growth opportunities will expand based on performance and mentorship from the Director of Curriculum & Player Development.

Experience Required

  • PGA Associate or PGA Professional in good standing (or actively pursuing membership)
  • Experience in golf instruction and junior development

Essential Responsibilities

First Tee Program Implementation (Primary Focus)

  • Lead day‑to‑day delivery of all First Tee youth programs, including group classes, community programs, field trips, and in‑school sessions.
  • Manage class operations: rosters, attendance, equipment setup, lesson plans, safety, and overall class flow.
  • Deliver age‑appropriate First Tee curriculum that integrates golf skills, life skills, and character development.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of on‑course experiences that strengthen curriculum outcomes.
  • Support parent, volunteer, and participant communications; help facilitate orientations and program updates.
  • Drive recruitment and enrollment by highlighting the benefits and impact of First Tee programming through parent engagement, community visibility, and mission‑centered storytelling.
  • Support volunteer coach development to ensure consistent instructional quality.
  • Maintain accurate participant records using the First Tee Coaches App and Salesforce.

Instruction & Player Development

  • Provide individual lessons, group lessons, and family instruction to enhance participant improvement and engagement.
  • Support competitive player development, including preparation for VSGA junior events and other opportunities.
  • Assist with tournament education, planning, and on‑site execution.
  • Drive enrollment in lessons, leagues, clinics, and development pathways by actively engaging families, communicating player progress, and recommending next‑step opportunities.
  • Create short‑form video instruction, swing tips, and educational content for social media to increase visibility, support student learning, and promote lesson offerings.
  • Use effective calls to action to encourage continued engagement in lessons, camps, seasons, and developmental programs based on each participant’s goals and progress.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor aligned with First Tee’s mission and youth‑development values.

Facility Support & Operational Standards

  • Ensure daily facility readiness, including schedule accuracy, equipment organization, and cleanliness standards.
  • Represent First Tee during space rentals, corporate events, birthday parties, and like events that require facility supervision and professional service.
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and well‑organized environment for all participants and families.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, team‑oriented culture across staff and volunteers.

Position Summary
First Tee – Virginia Blue Ridge is seeking an energetic, mission-driven, and reliable Program Coordinator to support the delivery of youth programming, player development experiences, and day-to-day facility operations.

This role primarily focuses on delivering First Tee programming while also supporting the clubhouse experience and operational needs at indoor and partner facilities. The position requires a balance of coaching, customer service, and light technical troubleshooting.

Scheduling is flexible and may range from part-time to full-time hours (10–40 hours/week) based on seasonal programming needs and staff availability. Evening and weekend availability is essential.

The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys working with youth, and is adaptable as programming continues to grow and evolve.

Reports to: Director of Curriculum & Player Development

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery & Player Development (Primary)

· Deliver First Tee programs including classes, camps, school-based sessions, and community outreach for youth ages 5–18

· Implement lesson plans aligned with First Tee curriculum, integrating golf instruction with life skills and character development

· Facilitate both on-course and simulator-based player development experiences

· Manage class logistics including attendance, setup/breakdown, and equipment organization

· Maintain a safe, structured, and engaging environment for all participants

· Reinforce First Tee values, expectations, and behavioral standards

· Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, including sharing updates and promoting progression through the First Tee pathway

Clubhouse & Participant Experience (Secondary)

· Serve as on-site clubhouse attendant during scheduled shifts

· Greet participants and families, assist with check-in, and support scheduling or booking systems

· Provide a welcoming, organized, and customer-focused experience

· Monitor simulator usage and assist participants with basic technical support

· Respond to questions related to programming, schedules, and facility use

· Represent First Tee with professionalism and a service-oriented mindset

Facility & Operational Support

· Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of hitting bays, simulator spaces, and common areas

· Assist with setup, care, and storage of golf and facility equipment

· Support coordination across multiple program sites (indoor, course, and community locations)

· Assist with events, clinics, and off-site programming as needed

· Support volunteer coordination efforts, including engagement and basic onboarding

· Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall program success

Qualifications

· Foundational knowledge of golf fundamentals

· Interest in youth development and enthusiasm for working with participants ages 5–18

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Reliable, organized, and capable of managing responsibilities across locations

· Positive, high-energy attitude with a focus on creating engaging experiences

· Basic technical proficiency, including:

· Navigating web-based platforms and managing multiple system logins

· Comfort operating simulator technology and related software

· Ability to independently troubleshoot routine technical issues (hardware/software)

· Experience in coaching, instruction, or youth programming (golf or related fields), preferred

· Familiarity with First Tee or similar youth development models, preferred

· PGA Associate status, PGA Professional, or interest in pursuing PGA certification, preferred

· Availability for afternoons, evenings, weekends, and occasional off-site programming

Compensation & Schedule

· Starting Hourly Rate: $12.77 – $20/hour (based on experience and credentials)

o Higher rates may be offered for PGA track candidates, experienced coaches, or certified First Tee instructors

· Schedule: Flexible (10–40 hours/week depending on season)

· Peak Hours: Afternoons, evenings, weekends, and summer programming
